SO BLESSED: Helen Crissman of Bradford has a word of
encouragement for our little town.
She writes, “Elderly people are so blessed to be living in
Bradford. Everywhere, people show courtesy and respect.”
“Monday night (Nov. 24) was not the best weatherwise for the
production of ‘Cats.’ As soon as I got out of the car, there was a
strong arm offered to walk me to the door – no other than Father
Gallina. I’m not even in his parish. When I go to my hair stylists,
she takes my arm to cross the streets. Joan Guthrie and her
colleagues are so protective.
“Then there is the ATA bus. What would we do without Burt, Dean,
Jim and Bob who are good to everyone, especially the older people.
They help them getting on and off with armfuls of packages.
“Last, but not the least, are the men and women who live at
Emery Towers and elsewhere. They are our neighbors, patient and
understanding, willing to help in any way to make life easier and
more comfortable. We appreciate every one of them.
“This is an attribute of Christian living in the most remarkable
form.”
NO LIGHTS?: Another piece of mail we received was from John
Kinney of Bradford who writes, “I was waiting in anticipation for
the day after Thanksgiving when they light the wreaths on the light
poles around Bradford just to see how many lights on it actually
work.”
“Well, just like every year, especially the ones on East Main
Street, have one or two of the bigger bulbs in the middle of the
wreath that are blown out, and some of the smaller lights around
the wreath, too, and they usually stay that way all through
Christmas.
“I guess my question would be, they are nice decorations, but
where’s the lights? Do they check them out before they hang them
up? Can they replace these burnt-out bulbs? We seem to have the
only town that their Christmas decorations half work.
“Don’t misunderstand, people appreciate that they’re up there,
but it would be even better if they worked properly.”
John seems to be making a reasonable observation. Can anyone
help?
