LINCOLN SCHOOL: Foster Township Supervisor Cary Kaber is looking
for help in piecing together the history of the old Lincoln School
which now houses the township’s Municipal Building.

Cary, who tells us he is trying to “restore nostalgia” to the
old school, reports that this location is one of the most utilized
buildings of all those vacated by the Bradford Area School
District.

“There have been many visitors that reminisced of their ‘school
days’ as they conducted daily business in the municipal building. I
thought it might be nice to bring those reflections back to life by
displaying memorabilia from the days when the building operated as
Lincoln School,” he tells us.

“The original construction date of the front portion of the
building was 1930, while we believe the rear portion was attached
around 1955. We also have been told that a bust of Abraham Lincoln
stood in the front hallway facing the entrance door. We’re unsure
of the layout of the classrooms or the teachers who taught in each
room.

“This is where my project begins. I would appreciate it if
anyone who may have attended the school would provide a diagram of
the classrooms and the teachers’ names, along with any history
about the school. I would also appreciate any information available
that might lead me to the whereabouts of the Abraham Lincoln bust.
And lastly, if anyone has photographs they would like to share of
the Lincoln School days, I would very much appreciate receiving
them,” he tells us.

You may send information to Cary at that building, 1185 E. Main
St.

LAST ONE?: Ron Housler was out hunting last week, sitting on the
bridge at Marvin Creek, about a mile from Sena-Kean Manor,
Smethport, when he saw what he figures to be the last robin of the
season. Ron normally calls with the first robin of the season, so
let’s hope it’s not an eon until we hear from him again.

TODAY’S QUOTE: “One of the great pressures we’re facing in
journalism now is, it’s a lot cheaper to hire thumbsuckers and
pundits and have talk shows on the air than actually have bureaus
and reporters,” said Walter Isaacson, the Aspen Institute,
2007.
