STRANGE SIGHT: “While everyone has been busy looking for bear
and deer, I happened to spot a most unusual sight. It was Santa
Claus – and he wasn’t in his sleigh or being pulled by eight tiny
reindeer. Heck, they wouldn’t want to be in PA during deer
season!”

“No, he was on his motorcycle!”

Our note came Monday from Cheryl Razey of Smethport who
continues, “Rumor is that he was checking out the Smethport area to
see how best to ride in on Saturday.” Santa will be arriving via
motorcycle at the Smethport American Legion to have breakfast with
the area children from 9 to 11 a.m.”

OPENING ACT: You might want to arrive early to BCPAC’s holiday
show, “The Spirit of Christmas,” tomorrow at Bradford High.

Beginning at 6:45 p.m. in the school lobby, the school’s Vocal
Jazz Ensemble will perform a holiday medley.

The ensemble consists of 15 high schoolers under the direction
of Chad Young. “We do a combination of holiday and jazz music as
well as a-cappella pieces,” Young said. Listen for standards like
“I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “Sleigh Ride,” along with some
less familiar surprises. The students choose the material and
select the soloists, under Young’s watchful ear. “It’s a chance for
them to perform some favorites along with some more contemporary
music,” said Young. And a chance for us to hear it as well.

The curtain goes up on “The Spirit of Christmas” at 7:30
p.m.

WIRELESS ELK: We were fascinated by a photo in a recent edition
of the Cameron County Echo of a huge bull elk who’d managed to get
his gigantic rack entangled in a length of wire believed to be part
of an abandoned signal system along a railroad line in late
October.

Wildlife conservation Officers Wayne Hunt and Doty McDowell had
the elk on its back and blindfolded as they cut through a maze of
wire from the 6X6 antlers along Cameron Road. Officers had
tranquilized the large bull before beginning this delicate
operation.

Word has it the elk got back on its feet and headed into the
woods.
