ON CNN: Oh, the wonders of the Internet!
If you’re one of those people dying to see that CNN story about
the value of stripper wells in meeting our energy needs, you can
access it at CNN.com. Key words,
“stripper wells.” Minard Run Oil Co.’s Fred Fesenmyer is featured
on the report which is scheduled to air intermittently as event
coverage allows.
Fred talks during the interview about these so-called stripper
wells which produce only a small amount of oil per day. Multiplied,
however, they can help meet our growing energy demands.
Bradford’s oilfield has always been a rich source of crude oil –
but mostly in stripper wells. “Small, independent oil producers
tell CNN most people don’t event know they exist,” the report
says.
Fred is quoted on CNN: “That’s part of our message – to let the
public realize we are not the Exxons and the Mobils. I think we’re
a huge part of the solution.”

TODAY’S QUOTE: “October. This is one of the peculiarly dangerous
months to speculate in stocks. The others are July, January,
September, April, November, May, March, June, December, August and
February.”
The quote is from Mark Twain’s Pudd’nhead Wilson and was
forwarded to us by Kim Benjamin. It came from his daily calendar
for Oct. 1 and strikes us, too, as particularly timely.
This comment reminded us of another that has stuck with us
through the years. “If all economists were laid end to end, they
would not reach a conclusion,” said George Bernard Shaw, Irish
dramatist.
When we find time, we’ll have to search for quotes which sum up
the country’s financial pickle.
A FIRST: Joel Mong tells us that Bradford had the first ever
bank go under after the FDIC was established in the 1930s and, as a
result, customers received payment from the federal government
under that insurance plan. A dubious distinctive, but we’ll take
it.
ONE MORE: Paul David DeAngelo of Ridgway has another one to add
to our list of “famous people” who have visited Bradford. “Don’t
forget Vincent Price around 1971. He appeared in Bradford at an art
show maybe at the school. He had his artwork and talked about it
and actually talked with me. He was a very nice man!”
