KERSEY – The annual Elk Expo is slated for Sept. 19-20 at the
Elk County Fairgrounds in Kersey.
The expo is an outdoor sportsmen’s event with seminars,
demonstrations, exhibits, vendors and more.
Chainsaw carvers will entertain the crowds along with seminars,
music and food. Newly added this year is Nashville recording artist
Jerry Schickling and his band, “North Country,” who will be
performing live on the main stage on Sept. 20. Schickling has
opened for numerous artists such as Neal McCoy and the Marshall
Tucker Band.
Outdoor photographer and videographer Freddie McKnight will
offer suggestions that will help visitors take better outdoor
photographs. The central Pennsylvania native has been carrying his
camera in the woods for more than 20 years and his photographs have
been published in national magazines and Web sites.
Meanwhile, a fly fishing seminar will be presented by George
Daniel, who began fly fishing at age six while growing up in Potter
County. He has been seen on ESPN and OLN while competing in the
Great Outdoor Games and the Fly Fishing Masters. Daniel’s seminar
will focus on the basic four-part cast, common mistakes and how to
correct them, along with tips and techniques for fly fishing.
The most popular part of the expo is the random drawing,
sponsored by the Pennsylvania Game Commission, for the 45 licenses
that will allow hunters to harvest an elk this season. The event is
slated for 5 p.m. Sept. 20.
The 2008 elk season will take place between Nov. 3-8. This year,
hunters will submit applications for one of 45 licenses, of which
17 will be designated for antlered elk and 28 for antlerless
elk.
Also, Elk Watching Tour Shuttles will again be available this
year. They will be leaving the Expo grounds around 4 p.m. Sept. 20.
Anybody wanting to take the tour must sign up at the Expo booth
prior to 2 p.m. The tour is expected to take about two hours.
