NO DUMMY: “America’s Got Talent” winner Terry Fator, is a
ventriloquist by trade – but not just any old ventriloquist. He
just signed a ,100 million, five-year Las Vegas contract. But
that’s not all – he will be opening the Bradford Creative and
Performing Arts Center’s 2008-09 season.

BCPAC officials usually hold their season announcement until the
fall, but, once again, the Internet has scooped them. After a story
about Terry’s ,100 million Vegas gig appeared in the Wall Street
Journal recently, locals from Bradford, Erie, Buffalo and parts
beyond flocked to Terry’s Web site and noticed this Bradford date –
his only regional appearance.

Terry will perform in Pitt-Bradford Bromeley Family Theater in
Blaisdell Hall Sept. 28 at 4 p.m.

BCPAC president Karen Buchheit said, “The Bradford appearance is
his last single-night booking for the next few years. And he’s not
playing intimate halls like what we have here in Bradford.

“We were very lucky to have booked Terry just as his career has
taken off.”

Terry and his gang of lovable puppets evoke Elvis, The Rat Pack,
Tony Bennett, Marvin Gaye, Kermit and Etta James.

“Despite an entrenched bias against practitioners of this
old-fashioned art form,” the Wall Street Journal noted, “the past
year has brought a wave of good fortune for ventriloquism, long
derided as the province of children’s parties and the lowest form
of humor, barely a step above mimes.” But no more.

Terry has recently appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Ellen”
and “Late Night with David Letterman.” In fact, he has certainly
been at the forefront of bringing back his unique form of
entertainment, a genre in decline since the 1970s.

“It’s a great family show,” Karen tells us, “and because he’s
the best at combining ventriloquism with celebrity impressions, he
has the adults in the palm of his hand, too.”

BCPAC is selling tickets now for the Terry Fator appearance and
will fill the orders after the season subscriptions are placed in
late September.

The rest of the season will be announced at a special
anniversary event Sept. 6, and publicly on Sept. 8, at which time
anyone can purchase season subscriptions.

“It’s exciting to have so much interest in a show that’s three
months away,” Karen said. “It’s a great way to kick off our 25th
anniversary show.”
