CONGRATS!: From one old timer to another, The Era tips its hat
to Bisett Building Center on its 125th birthday. Its big
celebration is today. Compared to us, of course, Bisett is a mere
pup. The Era is now in its 131st year in business. Given the
changes which have taken place in the world, it’s certainly an
accomplishment for any company to make it past the century
mark.

TWO MORE: “As the proud niece of one of the soldiers from the
104th Infantry Division, I read with interest the article in the
May 7, 2008, edition of The Bradford Era about the Timberwolves
reuniting and touring Case. However, I was disappointed not to see
mention of my uncle and his wife, Donald and Adeline Anderson of
Derrick City, who were instrumental in arranging for the local
reunion to be held in Bradford.”

Our note today is from Janet Long of Coudersport, who continues,
“For many years my uncle and aunt have attended the national
reunions at various locations across the country, and I’m sure they
will be attending the one later this year in Washington. As we
approach Memorial Day, it’s a great time to honor our remaining
World War II veterans who served so courageously 60+ years
ago.”

LADY BUGS: Barney Snyder of Tucson, Ariz., writes to tell us
ladybugs are numerous, too, in Tucson.

“They seem to hatch in the Spring and fly up to the Mount Lemon
area which is at 9,000 feet, 6,500 feet higher than Tucson. I heard
that the lady bugs eat the aphids on plants. A lot of people
purchase a box of them to put out in their gardens. If this is
true, perhaps Bradfordians ought to take a class or two in ladybug
husbandry and collection and go into business.”

Given the large quantity of ladybugs which inhabit this region,
that might not be a bad idea. We definitely should share our
wealth.

PONY NOTE: Julian Price of Hewlett, N.Y., has a personal note
about our recent items on Bradford’s participating in minor league
baseball. He writes, “I sure remember the office. In 1956 my late
brother was the general manager of the ball club. I think that
either 1956 or 1957 was the end of PONY league baseball that was
played in Community Park in East Bradford.”
