THEY’RE BACK!: The hummingbirds, that is. Pete Lindstrom in
Willow Creek put out his feeder last Sunday and the first bird
arrived on Tuesday – two day earlier than last year. We also has a
message from George in Marshburg on Thursday that two male hummers
had arrived that morning. Word from here? Get out those
feeders!
WONDERFUL PLACE: “After over 36 years of service with Dresser in
two different locations the time for me to retire and return to my
hometown of Wellsboro has come. I am leaving this wonderful
community with some regret but have been blessed by all the
wonderful people I worked with both in the area and at the
plant.”
Michael J. Lundgren of Wellsboro wrote us recently, continuing,
“I believe that everyone should try to participate in their
community and I have been lucky enough to serve these organizations
– Futures, Salvation Army, Dresser Bradford Federal Credit Union,
Church of the Ascension, Foster Township Zoning Hearing Board and
the Bradford Ecumenical Home.”
“Each of these organizations has some of the most wonderful
people you could ever meet. People who love Bradford and the
surrounding communities and contribute to them in many different
ways. I am proud to have been associated with all of them and will
miss being involved.
“My wife and I made the Bradford/Derrick City area our home for
the past 15 years and also lived there from 1982-1986. All of these
years were some of the best of our lives. Bradford, like all other
cities and towns, may have its problems but it truly is a wonderful
and remarkable place to live. Thanks for allowing us to be a part
of it.”
We have always been amazed, too, at the special caring nature of
so many Bradford citizens. Very nice of Mr. Lundgren to put those
thoughts into words.
THE BEAGLES: Lou Pascale of Middlebury Center writes to follow
up on our stories about Bradford’ old ballpark: “The last New
York-Penn League team to play at Bradford’s Community Park was the
Bradford Beagles. The MLB team that they were affiliated with was
the Cincinnati Reds. The year was 1957. The Speer’s building was
built in the early ’50s. I played football for St Bernard’s in 1961
and we played at Bradford’s Community Ballpark. So Tony is correct
on the location of the ballpark.”
