A Smethport woman was arraigned Friday on more than 50 felony
charges alleging she stole from the family of Smethport District
Judge Bill Todd.
Ella M. Hahn, 44, of 27 Galico Crossroad, was arraigned before
District Judge Rich Luther regarding three separate criminal cases
alleging she had taken a gold watch from Mary Todd, the judge’s
wife; a debit card from the judge, to obtain ,401.50; and a total
of ,3,736.50 from Mary Todd’s debit, credit and bank accounts while
Hahn worked for the family between June 2007 and February 2008,
according to court records.
In the first case, between June 23 and Aug. 25, 2007, Hahn
allegedly took a gold-and-diamond watch belonging to Mary Todd and
sold it to Martin Maynard at Ask Design Jewelers for ,260,
according to court records.
Hahn was arraigned on one count of theft by unlawful taking, a
first-degree misdemeanor, and released on ,5,000 unsecured
bail.
In the second case, on Jan. 24, Hahn used a debit card belonging
to Bill Todd to withdraw ,401.50 from an automated teller machine
in Smethport, according to court records. She was arraigned on one
count each of identity theft, access device fraud and theft by
deception, all first-degree misdemeanors.
She was released on ,7,500 unsecured bail.
In the third case, between Oct. 3 and Feb. 2, Hahn used Mary
Todd’s cards on 18 separate occasions to withdraw money, ranging in
amounts between ,100 and ,400, for a total of ,3,763.50, the
records read.
The Todds had not authorized Hahn to use neither their bank
accounts nor their cards, the court records read. She withdrew the
money with no intent to give it to the Todds, according to the
court records.
She was arraigned on 18 counts each of identity theft, access
device fraud and theft by deception, all third-degree felonies. She
was released after posting ,25,000 cash bail.
Preliminary hearings for all three matters were scheduled for
May 7 in front of Luther.
