ART WORK: Our item on Jack Clark, the creator of the Zippo art
department, sparked a memory for a Florida man.

Ronald Mealey of Venice, Fla., writes, “You spoke of Jack Clark
in Monday’s issue. I have a 16 by 23 airbrush painting done by Jack
Clark in 1950. It hung in our cottage for many years and when we
sold the cottage we brought it with us to Florida. The subject is
two men in a boat fishing on Chautauqua Lake for ‘muskie.’ As I
understand one of the men is supposed to be Jack’s father.”

SPRING NOTE: Monty Foley of Warren writes: “I enjoyed reading
your story about the early peepers peeping reports – definitely a
good sign. As we all know, robins, peepers and daffodils are surely
signs of spring arrival. However, I would like to report a sighting
that tops all of them. The other day I saw a doctor carrying golf
clubs. Need I say more? Spring has surely sprung, without a
doubt.”

SNAIL MAIL: John Yerdon of Bradford stopped by with a birthday
card his wife received on April 2. It was mailed from Monaca, Pa.,
on March 12. This surely will give ammunition to those e-mail users
who refer to regular delivery as “snail mail.”

TIGER NEWS: Ann Heffner of St. Marys remembers Tiger at the Bar
from high school:

“Teacher Margaret Driscoll Scott spoke to her classes of the
book in the 1960s and encouraged us to read it (which I did). She
related a few incidents mentioned in the book and was known for her
knowledge of local lore. She was the daughter of prominent local
lawyer D.J. Driscoll.”

We also heard from Erma Tibbits of Fredericksburg, Va., on this
subject: “The book is the biography of Charles Margiotti, a
Pennsylvania lawyer who also served as the Pennsylvania attorney
general. I became interested in the book when I learned, several
years ago, that Mr. Margiotti was an acquaintance of my late
father.’

“The first limited edition of the book was published in 1956
shortly after Mr. Margiotti’s death. It’s my understanding that
these copies, if found, sell for ,500 to ,1,000.

“My brother, George Dixon of Emporium found there was a second
printing in 1999. He was able to obtain copies for himself and me
to add to our collections.”
