BIGFOOT: A story in the recent edition of Pennsylvania Game News
apparently gives the final word on our supposed “Bigfoot.” Yep, it
was a bear with mange.

Actually, that’s what the Game Commission has said all along –
despite many arguments on the subject.

Jack Homa is the one who clued us in to this article which gives
an ID from Mark Ternent, a Game Commission wildlife biologist, who
goes on to explain mange in depth.

“Probably too deep,” Jack tells us. “I don’t know if he speaks
for Mark or the Pennsylvania Game Commission?”

Meanwhile, we’ve heard that the Bigfoot organization is planning
an expedition this summer of the part of Allegheny National Forest
where this creature reportedly was seen. Only ,300 for a weekend.

FIRST ONE: Jim Dougherty of Bradford has a report and a
follow-up question:

“After cleaning out a couple family houses before sale we came
across many Bradford Era calendars from the past. We have them all
from 1965 (with a photo of ‘Building the Kinzua Dam’) to current
2008, 40-plus years. Some really neat photos along the way. The
Bradford Bypass ending at Main Street, the NEW Bradford Mall, a few
of the Bradford Airport, one with an Allegheny Airline jet, some of
the Kinzua railroad bridge before and after the tornado, and many
other interesting shots.”

“I guess one question I have is, when did The Bradford Era start
putting out the calendars?”

We admit we do not know. How embarrassing! On the other hand, we
do know that many of the early shots were aerial photos and
branched out in later years. We went back to the aerial for ’08 for
a view of the “new” Bradford Regional Medical Center.

OH, ZIPPO: Jeff Yohe of Murfreesboro, Tenn., writes us in late
January: “I was reading the Nashville paper this morning, ‘the
Tennessean,’ and there was a nice little write-up on the inside of
the front page on the Zippo Lighter Co. sponsoring Buck Covington’s
Tour. I thought that was pretty cool to see a local business like
Zippo get that kind of exposure here in Nashville.”

And in case you didn’t know – we didn’t – Covington finished in
eighth place on the fifth season of American Idol and has parlayed
that into a career as a country singer.
