SOME SIGHT: “Last Friday afternoon, I was at my camp on the St.
Marys/Johnsonburg road. A flock of about 50 geese flew over,
heading south. The sun was shining brightly and the sky was blue.
What a sight.”

That’s the word today from Sy Kronenwetter of St. Marys. He
adds, “The sun was shining on them and it was a beautiful thing to
see. I wished I would have had my camera. Isn’t this a little late
for geese to head south? They were flying in a ‘V’ formation.”

The only thing more beautiful than a flock of geese flying
south? A flock of geese flying north, of course.

OTHER SIDE: We’ve been in the newspaper business long enough to
know there’s two sides to every story. Here’s the other side of an
item in Round the Square the other day:

Terry Taylor of Smethport writes, “Just a comment about
Saturday’s Round the Square – While pointing out how much profit
United Refining made for the fiscal year, perhaps mention should
have been made that all of the Kwik Fill and Country Fairs owned by
United Refining employ a good number of people (probably an average
of five per location, at least) and the refinery itself is a big
employer in Warren.”

“So despite the fact that gas costs a small fortune, quite a few
of the dollars made go into paying salaries for a good number of
tax-paying citizens, and I’m proud to say that I have two sons who
work for United Refining as managers of two of the Kwik Fill
locations.

“Yes, the profit numbers seem mind boggling, but it’s an area
refinery that uses North American petroleum, so better the money
stays here than overseas!”

SALUTE: Fred Mackendrick of Petersburg, Ill., adds a word of
commendation to previous comments in Round the Square: “I, too,
want to salute the boys from Company K, 28th Div. I was 11 years
old at time, watched those soldiers march from the Bradford Armory
down Main Street and board awaiting train, mothers, fathers, and
sweethearts in tears. That was a sad day for me. I will never
forget that day.”
