SNOWY OWL: Shelly Crissman Hannon of Littleton, N.H., writes,
“Holiday greetings from the Western White Mountains in Northern New
Hampshire! I spotted a Snowy Owl last winter and thought it rare
for one to be “this” far south. We are 60 miles from the Canadian
border on the Connecticut River. Incidentally, we’re about 10 hours
northeast of Bradford. Love reading the Era online everyday!”
SOLDIER SUPPORT: Barney Snyder of Tucson, Ariz., writes, “I
admire you for your candor in admitting mistakes, i.e., the
soldiers overseas ‘thing.'”
“Please mention somewhere, sometime that if people feel a need
to support a soldier but don’t know how, they can go online under
‘Soldier’s Angel.’ This site will provide them with the name of a
soldier whose folks back home don’t have the resources to send him
a package now and then.
“The P.O. will provide you with a box and you can stuff as much
in it as it will hold and the postage will be a tad under 9
dollars. They would like you to write the soldier a letter once or
twice a month. Maybe send a box once a month. A church group or any
group for that matter could raise enough money to adopt a
soldier.
“I don’t want our people over there, but as long as they are
there, I will support them until they come home even if I don’t
support the idiots in the White House.”
Barney continues, “I really enjoy your column as you probably
suspect by all of the emails I send. I don’t send them to get them
published but when you do, many of my friends read and comment on
them.”
“I guess for people like you and your Round the Square you
provide a reason to stay attached to Bradford. You bring back
memories and, when you get older, those memories mean a lot. I
suspect that the many others from out of town whose comments I have
read, feel the same as I do.”
