FEEDBACK: Terry McGuire of Denver, Pa., writes about our item on
the troops serving overseas:
“As my brother prepares to go back to Iraq for a third time next
month leaving his family, wife, and new son behind once again to
fight in a foreign land, I thought about RTS ‘things to be thankful
for this Thanksgiving.’
“When I read RTS that day I also took note of a lack of thanks
to our troops over seas and here in the United States protecting us
while we sleep but knowing that Bradford and its surrounding
communities are the most patriotic places I have yet to see I never
thought twice about The Bradford Era’s respect for our fighting men
and women.
“Also you are exactly correct when you say the average American
has made little or no sacrifice for this war and that is why it is
so easy to forget, but for those of you who have sent a loved one
into harm’s way, you cannot and will not forget the sacrifice that
these soldiers and their families make everyday. God bless
America!”
SNOWY OWL: Kimberly Cian of Bradford was a little skeptical in
November when her daughter came inside to report having just seen a
snowy owl.
These birds are a bit unusual this far south but we had another
report in recent days of a hunter seeing one of these owls.
Kimberly tells us her family, which lives on Williams Street,
has a busy bird feeder and has watched countless other birds
including hawks and other birds of prey. So when 9-year-old
Victoria reported seeing the snowy owl, Mom was pretty sure she was
not mistaken. They later got on the Internet and confirmed the
bird’s identity.
CORRECTION: A man who left his name only as Everett said he
wanted to let us know that an RTS item on Tommy Cardamone was
wrong. His name was Tommy D’Arcy Cardamone. “Years ago he was a
boxer. They used to call him ‘The Patent Leather Kid.’ He owned a
night club in the area called the Silver Slipper,” according to
Everett.
