BROWN CAT: “Thank you for printing the article from Paula
Lafferty on her sighting of the black panther. A few years ago when
my husband and I were camp host at Twin Lakes Recreational near
Kane, Pa., we had a brown panther cross the road in front of our
vehicle around 5 p.m.,” writes Peggy Hineman of Zephyrhills,
Pa.
She adds, “Then on a Saturday evening in August 2005, driving in
to Treasure Lake, DuBois, Pa., I saw a black panther on the golf
course. … definitely memorable occasions.”
We admit we print some reports even though we are pretty
skeptical. And, yet, we also heard from Marsha Jenkins of Newell
Creek, Eldred, after writing about that big black cat.
Marsha says that, a couple years ago, she saw what she believed
was a black panther crossing the road in front of her. The next
day, she saw the tracks in her backyard.
She didn’t say anything at the time because “I was afraid people
would think I was nuts.”
PET CONTEST: Attention, pet lovers! Grab your camera and take a
photo of your dog or cat because our Newspapers in Education
program is sponsoring another pet photo contest.
Last year’s contest was a huge success. And this year there will
be even more categories (and should we also say “dog-e-gories”?)
including a costume category for both. Entry blank and rules will
appear in the paper after the first of the year.
Entry fees go to our Newspapers In Education program.
TOM FRONTINO: One of the organizations associated with the Festa
Italiana Committee, which each year provides funds to local
charity, is what’s known as the Tommy Frontino Memorial.
Ann DeLucia, Festa vice president, writes, “The Festa Italiana
Committee feels an explanation is overdue. In the list of
organizations receiving funds, at the bottom is the Tommy Frontino
Memorial.”
“This is not given by Festa Italiana Committee, but by fellow
employees of the Post Office with whom he worked for 20 years.
“The Postal Workers chose the Festa Giveaway evening, well aware
of Tommy’s enthusiastic involvement, working during years of Festa,
up to the last, when he lost his battle with cancer.
“So with the Festa Italiana President Francis Benedict in
agreement for the fourth year, “Tommy Frontino Memorial” is added
to the list, and Tommy is still in there, participating, through
his friends,” according to Ann.
