CROOK FARM: Step back in time today and Saturday at the annual
Crook Farm Country Fair at the historical Crook Farm homestead on
Seaward Avenue.

The event, slated for 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. each day, will consist a
blend of artists from musicians to those making wares such as
blacksmiths, weavers, candle markers and more. The music runs the
gamut from round and square dancing, to Irish step dancing, gospel
and old-time country.

So if you feel like fiddling around, this is the place to go
this weekend!

THIS, TOO: While you’re there, check out the items on display
for the silent auction being held to benefit the Emergency
Prescription Assistance Program.

This is the 10th anniversary of the program sponsored by the
United Methodist Cluster of churches.

Organizers tell us the cost of prescriptions has increased so
much that if the program is to continue it needs help in
replenishing the funding.

Word from here is, it’s a worthy place for your contribution and
maybe you’ll even get to buy a cool item or two on the auction
block.

LUCKY US: Linda Exley of Hamlin, N.Y., writes: “Gas prices! My
husband and I are originally from Bradford, Pa., so we are there
visiting the area quite often. Your gas prices are a treasure for
us. The gas prices in the Rochester, N.Y., area are still hovering
around ,3+.”

We also heard from Chris Mackowski of Limestone, N.Y., earlier
this week: “I know gas prices are of interest to RTS readers. I’m
in Fredericksburg, Va., for a few days doing battlefield duty. I
paid ,2.49/gallon, and then saw it even later in the day as low as
,2.43/gallon.’

“The closer you get to interstate exchanges, the higher the
prices get (to snag unknowing travelers, I’m sure); once you get
away from the highway, either into town or out one of the major
states roads, the price really goes down.”

SAME COLORS: Wayne Caskey of State College has an interesting
question for local sports fans: “Strange that Smethport and Port
Allegany high schools, only 10 miles apart, have the same school
colors. Does anyone know why? Which school was first to choose?
Both have played football since 1897, the oldest rivalry in McKean
County. I’ve never found the answer why both picked orange and
black.”

Maybe one of our readers over there can tell us?
