100 DEGREES: Heaven knows, we’ve plumbed the depths of the
thermometer as it hits the arctic range in Bradford. How about the
other end of the scale?
Gary Wesmiller of Griffin, Ga., writes: “My brother still lives
in Bradford and we had a question. I remember having temperatures
in Bradford that hit 100 degrees. He is older than I and says he
knows Bradford has never hit 100 degrees. Could you please e-mail
me the record high temperatures for Bradford?”
This has been a particularly hot and muggy summer for Bradford,
and we’re certain the mercury has been in the 90s. In fact, by the
time this hits the paper, this week alone should have witnesses one
or two of those 90-plus days. (Pity the poor ladies and gentlemen
who had to cook and set up for the Festa Italiana!)
And August is the doggest of the dog days so if we’ve ever hit
the 100-degree mark, it probably was in August.
And, so, we’re calling on the very oldest of Bradford residents
to search their memory and let us know if they recall any
100-degree days.
SLOW GOING: Imagine getting a post card in the mail – some nine
years after the fact.
In July, a Bradford woman recently received a post card from Las
Vegas, Nev., that was postmarked June 17, 1998!
Interestingly, it had been sent by a second Bradford woman as a
joke. She had written it as if her host’s pet had sent it to her
friends pet, inquiring about the writer’s pet. All three pets are
now deceased.
We are not revealing names to protect future mail delivery of
all concerned – although we’re not sure it could get much
worse!
GAS PAIN?: A reader tells us gas in Kane this past Sunday was
,2.81.
BIG CAT: For all you skeptics out there, yet another report of a
mountain lion during the month of July.
Judy Shelley of Smethport tells us she was driving on Bordell
Road on July 2 with her pet collie in the car. The tawny-colored
cat with a long tail showed its teeth.
“It looked like a mountain lion. It was huge!” she tells us.
This is not the first report we’ve had of a sighting on Bordell
Road. If you live in that area, you might want to keep your eyes
peeled.
