Round The Square

POPCORN WAGON: Tom Pessia, who’s owned that old popcorn wagon
for about 15 years now, sends along a few photographs.

Tom writes us, “It has had some changes before I purchased it 15
to 20 years ago. And, of course, it’s been painted and I put new
tires on it. It’s been revamped to use propane gas and the peanut
area in the front has been removed to add a cooking section in its
place. Other than that it is pretty much the same.”

Tom tells us the Bradford Lions had once had the wagon but he
bought it and then used it at Memorial Day parades, and other local
events. He would also rent it out for events.

For a time, the popcorn wagon had been at the club in
Titusville.

NEGATIVE IMAGE: Talk about an impossible photograph: a black
bear visiting at night.

Donna Bidwell of Eldred forwarded to us two pictures taken July
4 when her family had what she termed “a rather large uninvited
dinner guest.”

“We were sitting around the fire (six of us). We heard a noise a
few feet away. My son Damian yelled ‘bear.’ We thought he was
kidding.

“Our dog Lilly chased it up a tree. I had enough time to run for
the camera and get a couple pics. This was his second visit of the
day. We had gone away for a few hours and when we came home he had
already helped himself to the bird feed and the squirrel feed.”

ONE MORE: The last time we published an item from Denny Ordiway
of Emporium we got ourselves a lesson in what makes a “blue
moon.”

In honor of Pennsylvania’s little budgetary problem, we pass
along his note: “We may live in the Keystone State, but to be
politically correct, we are the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (I
believe there is one other commonwealth in our United States which
is Virginia). Someone told me years ago that being a commonwealth
instead of a state affects laws enacted in Harrisburg.

“Anyone have any ancient history on our laws of the land? By the
way, I belong to the common poor in Pennsylvania.”
