Round The Square for July 2

FINAL TREES: Just a couple more trees today as we finish up our
columns about your “personali-tree.”

This interesting match-up of a tree to a time of the year – much
like a horoscope – came to us from our friends at Elk State Forest.
We managed to get through most of it by Saturday’s column but still
had a couple more trees for today:

Walnut tree (Passion) – unrelenting, strange and full of
contrasts, often egotistic, aggressive, noble, broad horizon,
unexpected reactions, spontaneous, unlimited ambition, no
flexibility, difficult and uncommon partner, not always liked but
often admired, ingenious strategist, very jealous and passionate,
no compromise.

Weeping willow (Melancholy) – likes to be stress free, loves
family life, full of hopes and dreams, attractive, very empathetic,
loves anything beautiful, musically inclined, loves to travel to
exotic places, restless, capricious, honest, can be influenced but
is not easy to live with when pressured, sometimes demanding, good
intuition, suffers in love until they find that one loyal,
steadfast partner; loves to make others laugh.

KEEP ‘EM: Carol Orris had an opportunity to put our questions
about that Coke bottling plant in Bradford to someone really in the
know: Steve Bastedo who works for Coca-Cola in Atlanta, Ga. Steve
was visiting his in-laws in Bradford, Lois and Pres Abbey.

And, so, the last word is – hang onto those old Bradford
bottles. The blue-mist colored bottles with Bradford, Pa.,
imprinted on them are collectibles, he told Carol.

Carol, who said Steve had been her last customer one day in June
at Orris Jewelers, adds: “It’s a small world! Thanks for the
interesting piece of history!”

After having seen a few of those old Coke bottles in recent
days, we must say that they are truly works of art.

With all the discussion, particularly in recent years, about our
limited natural resources we can only wonder how long will it be
before we return to glass, the ultimate recyclable?

TODAY’S QUOTE: “A newspaper ought to be willing to offend even
its most loyal readers. … A newspaper that gets no complaints is a
dead newspaper.” So said John S. Carroll, former LA Times editor,
2006.

(We must be very alive here at The Era.)
