No charges are anticipated in an all-terrain vehicle accident
that took the life of a Bradfod man Sunday evening in Foster
Township, according to police.
Eric Suttrich, 26, of 41 Main St., died after the incident off
Totten Hollow at 6:07 p.m. He was riding along a road about 300
feet off Totten Hollow when his ATV hit a wire cable strung between
two metal posts on a private road, according to Foster Township
Police. The cable, which was marked with a strip of orange plastic,
hit the ATV, slid up over the handlebars and hit Suttrich in the
neck.
Police explained Thursday that the cable strung between the two
metal posts was a legal gate.
On Monday, McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill said he ruled the
cause of death as blunt force trauma to the neck. Cahill pronounced
Suttrich dead at the scene Sunday evening.
Police said Suttrich had been riding ATVs with several other
riders in the area and all the riders left the scene after the
accident except one man who stayed behind and called authorities.
Police explained Thursday that under the law, the other riders were
not required to stay behind as long as the one rider, the ATV
owner, stayed behind.
Police said the group had ridden on paths around the cable and
posts earlier in the day and noted the cable has been strung across
the road for a number of years. The riders also attended an ATV
dice run earlier in the day in Otto Township.
Police said Thursday they are still waiting to hear back from
Cahill on the results of a toxicology test, which should take a few
weeks.
Police were assisted at the scene of the accident by Cahill, and
members of the Rew Volunteer Fire Department and Bradford City
Ambulance.
