Johnsonburg edges Laurel in Class A playoffs

ST. MARYS – Calvin Grumley smashed a two-run home run in the
bottom of the sixth inning to send Johnsonburg past Laurel 2-1 in
the first round of the PIAA Class A baseball playoffs
Wednesday.

The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth when Laurel
(17-6) plated a run.

Grumley earned the mound win, tossing a five-hitter, fanning 15
and walking four.

John Thomas took the loss, scattering three hits, striking out
nine and walking two.

Johnsonburg (20-1) will play California in the quarterfinals at
4 p.m. today at Slippery Rock University.
