SHIPPENSBURG – Ben Hahn, a senior at Smethport High School, won
the 3200 run at the PIAA Class AA track and field championships
Saturday.
Hahn ran the race in a time of 9:18.89.
This was Hahn’s second best 3200 run time ever. Two weeks ago,
at the Baldwin Invitational, Hahn ran the 3200 run in a time of
9:09.75.
Hahn’s previous best state finish in the 3200 run was during his
sophomore year when he took a fifth place.
This is the seventh state medal Hahn has received covering both
cross country and track and field.
In the 1600 final Saturday, Hahn placed 12th in 4:37.
Hahn will attend Edinboro University on a full track scholarship
in the fall.
“It has been a real pleasure to coach Ben,” said Smethport coach
Rick Woodring. “It’s been an honor to have him run for us. He’s an
outstanding leader, always putting the team first. He’s been an
outstanding role model.
“He’s been a sensational distance runner. He graduates being one
of the very best male distance runners ever in this area in my
opinion. He is the first boy to win four District 9 titles in cross
country.
“I think he has demonstrated that he has been as good as anybody
that has ever come out of here. He has had a fabulous high school
career. I wish him well as he goes on to college.”
Also, Coudersport’s Emily Giannotti took fifth in the 3200 run
in a time of 11:09.90.
