SMETHPORT – Diana Phalon whiffed 11 and gave up one hit and one
walk as Smethport defeated Clarion 9-0 in District 9 Class A
softball playoff action Wednesday.
Phalon got relief help from Emma Hahn, who struck out four,
walked one and allowed one hit.
Leading the Lady Hubbers at the plate were Stephanie Black (RBI
double), Lauren Kinniburgh (2-for-3, triple, RBI single), Bobbi
McClelland (2-for-3), Jenna Duffy (double) and Erica Lathrop
(1-for-1, RBI single).
“This was a quality win,” said Christine Lightner, Smethport
coach. “I’m pleased with the effort. Everyone contributed. Now, we
really need to buckle down and focus on our game Tuesday.”
A. Walters and Q. Luke combined for six strikeouts, no walks and
11 surrendered hits for Clarion.
Walters went 2-for-3 with both of Clarions hits, including a
triple.
The Lady Hubbers will face Curwensville in the semifinals
Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at a site to be announced.
Smethport is now 20-0 on the season. The last undefeated season
for the Lady Hubbers was in 2004.
