COUDERSPORT – An Eldred woman and Shinglehouse man were found
dead Sunday morning in a vehicle at 158 Wildcat Road in Sharon
Township.
Kelly Jo Sherwood, (also known as Kelly Jo Barrett), 35, of 1
Cris Drive, Apartment 1L, Eldred, and David Paul Mesler, 36, of 158
Wildcat Road, Shinglehouse, were found dead in the vehicle and
appeared to have died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to
Coudersport-based state police.
Potter County Control said police were dispatched to the scene
at 9:13 a.m. Sunday.
Trooper Glenn Drake is the investigating officer, but was not
available Sunday night at the Coudersport-based state police
barracks when a call was placed for additional questions on the
incident.
Police could not say how the bodies were discovered, who found
them, when they were found, how long they had been in the vehicle,
the time of death and whose vehicle they were found in.
Police also did not indicate if the incident is being treated as
a double homicide or a murder-suicide.
Potter County Coroner Kevin J. Dusenbury said he pronounced a
male and female dead Sunday in Sharon Township off Wildcat Road. He
said he did not rule on the cause and manner of death yet as
autopsies will be performed on the bodies today in Erie.
Dusenbury said he would rule on a cause and manner of death
after the autopsies are completed.
The police investigation is ongoing.
Wildcat Road is located in a remote area, just outside of
Shinglehouse in the northwest corner of Potter County.
