Bradford High rallied from a 5-0 second-inning deficit to defeat
Brockway 8-7 in high school baseball action Tuesday.
The Owls (5-9) got back into the game with a three-run third
inning to cut the deficit to 5-3.
“We plugged away and got a couple big hits,” Bradford coach Tim
Burris said.
Alex Faucher scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the
seventh inning to give the Owls the win.
Faucher and Nick Foster were on the hill for Bradford, combining
on a 10-hitter, fanning four and walking four.
Armando Fortunato and Anthony Varischetti pitched for the
Rovers, allowing five hits, striking out seven and walking
eight.
Leading Bradford at the plate were Ryan LaBrozzi (2-for-3, 2
doubles, 1 RBI), Foster (2-for-3, double, triple, 2 RBIs) and E.J.
Moore (triple).
Levi Ruff (2-run double) and Varischetti (3-for-3, triple, 2-run
home run) paced the Rovers (1-14).
“Alex did a great job throwing strikes to start the game,”
Burris added. “Nick came in and shut them down.
“Our hitters were patient at the plate and drew several walks –
that was the difference in the game. We came up with a couple big
hits to score the runners.”
The Owls have won two straight.
“Our kids could have given up on the season,” Burris said. “They
are hanging in there and doing what it takes to get a couple
wins.”
The Owls host Brookville on Thursday and conclude the season
Saturday at Olean, N.Y.
