KANE – Triple winners Lindsay Sherman and Tricia Copeland keyed
Bradford to a 104-46 defeat of Kane and an undefeated regular
season Thursday in girls high school track and field action.
Sherman won the 200 and was a part of both the 400 and 1600
winning relays for the Lady Owls (5-0), while Copeland won the 100
and joined Sherman on the 400 and 1600 relays.
“This was a good way to end the dual meet part of our season on
a very nice afternoon in Kane,” noted Larry Stillman, Bradford
coach. “Kane has some nice athletes so it made for a good meet. We
had some very good efforts and we got a chance to tune up for the
district meet.
“Our sprinters – Lindsay Sherman, Tricia Copeland, Ellie
Hawkins, Paige Ambroseðand Steph Austin – all ran well, with Steph
placing in all three sprints.”
Doubling for Bradford were Alexa Wilton (100 hurdles, 300
hurdles), Britani Wiseman (long jump, triple jump), Chloe Nickel
(400 relay, 1600 relay) and Ambrose (400, 1600 relay).
“Our hurdlers – Alexa, Chloe, Kevryn Boser and Hilary Digel –
also looked pretty good,” Stillman continued. “And in the throws
Whitney (Cline), Katie Vecellio and Brooke Milbrandt all had good
nights, as did Chelsea Rinfrette in the javelin. We have really
improved this year in the throws.
“Our jumpers had their best day of the season. Britani Wiseman
won both the long and triple jump with personal best jumps and
Alexa, Erica Pascarella and Megan Race also had their best
jumps.”
Stillman also noted other strong performances for the Lady
Owls.
“Nicole Irons had her best pole vault all year in placing
second, and in the distance runs, Liz Keller, Katie White, Marissa
Buchheit and Rachel Garges had solid races for us,” Stillman
pointed out. “In the high jump, Erica got back where she wants to
be headed into districts, and Shea Miller also jumped well.”
The Lady Owls continue their undefeated streak and now look
forward to the District 9 Class AAA meet Wednesday at 3 p.m. in
Brookville.
“We finished 5-0 in dual meets, the fewest dual meets we have
ever had due to the weather,” commented Stillman. “We have not lost
a dual meet since the first meet of the 2001 season to DuBois. We
have a few days to rest and then we need to get ready for the
district meet.
“We know that it will be a very close meet. DuBois and
Punxsutawney are both very good and hungry to beat us. They will be
extremely motivated and prepared. It is our job to match them in
every event and go as hard as we can to the end.”
