KANE – Bradford closed out its dual meet season undefeated at
6-0 with wins over Kane and Port Allegany Thursday in high school
track and field action.
The Owls defeated the Wolves 122-28 and beat the Gators
113-33.
Bradford High sophomore Tyree Bennett won the 110 high hurdles,
the high jump and the triple jump and also took second place in the
300 intermediate hurdles.
“Tyree scored 18 points against each team so he had quite a
day,” said Tom Tessena, Bradford coach. “He is coming around at the
right time with districts now only six days away.”ð
Bradford had seven double winners in the victory over Kane and
six double winners in the meet with Port Allegany. Bennett was the
only triple winner.
Nick Johnson won the 300 intermediate hurdles and ran a leg on
the 4×100 relay team with Garrett McEwen, Ben Walter and Matt
Teribery.
“They ran a great time of :45.44,” noted Tessena. “Nick also
took a pair of seconds in the high hurdles and the triple jump. He
was a few inches away from four first places and he ran :41.27 for
a personal best in those hurdles.”
In the meet with the Gators, double winners were Johnson,
McEwen, Walter, Jared Feura and Rich Bartlebaugh.
Walter picked up his second first place by winning the 200
meters.
McEwen won the javelin and was second in both the 100 and the
shot put, where he had a personal best of 50’8 1/4″.ð
Teribery won the 100 and placed second in the long jump.
Colton Langianese won the 1600- and 400-meter runs.
“This is very unusual because they are back to back,” said
Tessena. “He is the only person I have ever seen try it.”
Feura and Bartlebaugh rounded out the double winners with both
taking part in the 4×800 and 4×400 relay teams. Other members of
the 4×800 team included freshmen Michael White and Mike Marasco
while Cody Nuzzo and Josh Yaworsky ran legs on the 4×400
relay.ð
Shane Speaker won the pole vault with a jump of 12’3″.
“He had a great effort at 12’9″ but just brushed the bar off,”
pointed out Tessena. “Our young distance guys John Karrasch,
Michael and Matthew White did a great job today. Coach (Bob)
Macfarlane has done a good job of bringing them along this
year.ððð
“Dan Gonzalez had a great throw of 149’10 3/4″ in the discus and
our 4×100 relay ran one of their best times ever today. We had a
lot of younger kids score points today. We were missing three of
our top guys and a few guys only did one or two events.”
Other personal bests for the Owls were recorded by Jake
McMurtrie (pole vault – 10’3″), Tyler Costello (javelin -127’6″),
Devon Swatt (discus – 110’9″), Ryan Breznik (400 meters – :56.8),
Michael White (800 meters – 2:10.8), Matthew White (400 meters –
:57.7) and Mike Marasco (400 meters – :59.6).ð
Class AAA districts for Bradford will take place Wednesday in
Brookville.
“Coach Kelley, Coach Mealey and I put the final touches on our
district lineup,” said Tessena. “We hope we have everyone in the
best events for the team and now we will see if we can meet our
goal of nine straight District 9 titles. Our seniors have never
lost a dual meet or a district meet, and they missed out on the
senior recognition day because lightning forced a cancellation.
Districts will have to be their recognition meet.”
Kane and Port Allegany will take part in the District 9 Class AA
district meet May 18 at Kane High School.
“Kane and Port Allegany have some very fine athletes that we
hope do well next week at the AA district meet,” observed
Tessena.
