DETROIT, Mich. – Doug Yohe of Bradford, Pa., and Tim Waltz of
Williamsport, Pa., took fourth place at the Cabela’s Master Walleye
Circuit on Lake Michigan recently.
The duo’s catch weighed in at 59 1/2 pounds, which earned them
$3,200. They picked up an additional $1,000 for being the highest
finishing Ranger boat in the Ranger Cup. The finish positioned them
to be one of the front runners in the Eastern Division of the
Master Walleye Circuit.
“We left the river and drove 25 miles down Lake Michigan. We
were fishing shallow water off of some reefs and found post-spawn
females trolling cranks on planer boards real slow in around 16
feet of water,” said Yohe. “Our number one thing was paying
attention to detail. We found fish early in the week and we didn’t
beat up on them.
“Our program changed throughout the week. We had to change and
adjust to the bite and fishing conditions, which keyed our
success.”
Both Yohe and Waltz have been fishing competitively for several
years. This was Yohe’s best finish ever in a professional walleye
tournament.
Some of Yohe’s other successes have been a couple of top 10
finishes in the 2005 MWC season and an overall third place in the
MWC Eastern Division which was also in 2005.
Yohe and Waltz plan on fishing at Henderson Harbor on Lake
Ontario in June where there will be another MWC event.
