    Grumley among Raabe Classic additions

The rosters for the 34th annual Don Raabe Big 30 Charities
    Classic continue to grow.

With today’s additions, there are now 60 players – 30 per team –
who have accepted invitations to play in the Aug. 4 contest.

Headlining the Pennsylvania additions are Calvin Grumley of
Johnsonburg and Kyle Armstrong of Otto-Eldred.

Grumley, a 5-11, 185-pound quarterback and safety, was an Olean
(N.Y.) Times Herald Big 30 All-Star, an AML All-Star and was third
    team all-state.

In baseball he was MVP in the East-West Legion game and third
    team all-state. In basketball he is a four-time District 9 All-Star
and was the Tri-County News player of the year in 2005.

He wants to play in the Classic “to play with the best players
    in the Big 30 area.”

His biggest thrill was “my whole senior season.”

Grumley’s hobbies include basketball, baseball, football,
    snowmobiling and skiing.

His favorite team is the Oakland Raiders. Larry Johnson is his
    favorite player.

He will major in wood products at Penn State University.

Armstrong, 5-5, 155 pounds, was a running back and cornerback
    for the Terrors.

His football honors included homecoming offensive MVP his senior
year and being named the most improved back his junior year.

Armstrong said playing in the Classic is “something I’ve wanted
to do and it is an honor.”

His biggest thrill was “knowing you could hit someone and the
    feeling afterward.”

He enjoys playing sports and weightlifting.

His favorite team is the Minnesota Vikings. Peyton Manning is
    his favorite player.

He plans to go into the family business of Taylor &
    Armstrong.

Also added the Pennsy roster is Sheffield’s Jamie Renninger.

    The 5-11, 170-pounder was a guard-linebacker for the
    Wolverines.

Renninger was an AML All-Star and the team’s leading
    tackler.

In wrestling, he was a state qualifier his freshman year.

“I love football and this is probably my last chance to play
with a team,” Renninger said of why he wants to play in the
    Classic.

His biggest thrill was “when we scored a touchdown and if I get
a sack or a tackle for a loss.”

His hobbies include football, wrestling and riding his
    four-wheeler.

His favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers. His favorite
    player is Willie Parker.

Added to the New York roster are Ron Malicki of Pioneer, David
Everts of Randolph and Matt McCarthy of West Valley.

Malicki, a 6-4, 205-pounder, was a receiver and tight end on
offense and saw action as a defensive back.

He will attend Medaille or Hilbert College and major in criminal
    justice or sports management.

He was an Olean (N.Y.) Times Herald Big 30 all-star in football
and basketball. In addition, he set a school record for touchdown
catches. He was an Erie County all-star selection for two years in
basketball and one year in football (2006).

“I was chosen to play and think it is an excellent opportunity
and experience to play with the best,” he said as to why he wants
    to play in the Classic.

His biggest thrill was breaking the school record for touchdown
    catches.

His hobbies include working out, playing basketball, football,
snowboarding, skiing, fishing and playing hockey.

His favorite team is the Jacksonville Jaguars. Matt Jones is his
    favorite player.

    Everts, a 5-11, 205-pounder was a two-way tackle.

He will attend Alfred State, majoring in business
    accounting.

In the classroom, he was an honor roll student and student of
    the month.

“It’s a great honor and may be the last football game I ever
play,” he said as to why he wants to play in the Classic. “Also, it
gives me an opportunity to be noticed by college scouts.”

His biggest thrill was “when we went 13-0 in 2005 and became the
Class D state champs in football.”

His hobbies are sports and working on the farm.

His favorite team is the Indianapolis Colts. Peyton Manning is
    his favorite player.

McCarthy, 6-1, 210 pounds, was a running back and
    linebacker.

He will major in criminal justice.

His honors include being named the WNY offensive MVP (Class D
    East) and a second-team all-state at linebacker.

McCarthy won letters four years in both football and
    basketball.

His reason for playing in the Classic is “to get to know my
peers and compete against quality opponents and have fun.”

His biggest thrill is “the adrenalin rushes that I feel during
    the game”.

His hobbies are hunting, fishing and drawing.

Notre Dame is his favorite team. Takeo Spikes is his favorite
    player.

Media day for the Raabe Classic will be at 1:30 p.m. May 20 at
    Pitt-Bradford.
