ON WING: Alvin Van Horn of Austin phoned Tuesday to report his
first hummingbirds of the season. “I was outside working in the
yard when one came to the windchimes,” he said. With that subtle
reminder, he got out the hummingbird feeder and put it up for his
thirsty arrival.
Alvin also tells us he heard his first peepers of the year at 9
p.m. April 24.
IN SHAMBLES: It gives us no pleasure to pass along this note but
we feel we must, particularly with Bradford City elections on the
horizon.
Larry Vecellio writes, “I had the experience of returning to
Bradford over the weekend to attend the funeral of my brother and
upon leaving Bradford I know that I would not be in any hurry to
return to terrible-looking homes on East Main, Congress and other
streets. The roads are enough to bring a paving truck with me on
returning.”
“Once upon a time Bradford was so beautiful where it was so nice
to come back and enjoy everything.
“The one thing of Bradford was the people that I have known all
these years are still friendly and having wonderful reunions are
always nice.
“This visit was very discouraging and if this gets published it
would be nice for the officials of Bradford to see this
once-wonderful town being turned into shambles through the eyes of
those who come for a visit.
“It is not a town for driving anywhere with hopes you get
through the streets without damage to your car or truck. Please,
officials of Bradford, get help and restore Bradford a lot.”
TRY THIS: OK, we admit we’re not too keen on Internet material.
But we received something too good to pass up.
It’s called, “Your age by eating out.” You try it.
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would
like to go out to eat (more than once but less than 10 times).
2. Multiply that number by 2.
3. Add 5.
4. Multiply that number by 50.
5. If youð have already had your birthday this year, add 1757.
If you haven’t, add 1756.
6. Now subtract the four-digit year that you were born.
You should have a three-digit number. The first digit should be
your original number – how many times you would like to eat out.
Theðnext two digits should be your age.
