PITTSBURGH – Anthony Tettis of the Ridgway Boxing Club defeated
Paul Koon from Philadelphia in the Pennsylvania State Golden Gloves
Championship on Saturday at Heinz Field.
Tettis knocked out Koon in the fourth round.
Tettis was the Western Pennsylvania Champion; Koon was the
Eastern Pennsylvania Champion and the 2006 state champion.
The Philadelphia Eastern Champions have dominated the state,
historically. This year only three Western champions, Tettis being
one of them, came away with a state championship.
Tettis advances to the National Golden Gloves Championship which
will be held in Chattanooga, Tenn., on April 30 and May 5.
Tettis also won a spot in February in the USA Olympic Boxing
qualifier to be held in Colorado Springs, Colo., in June.
The Ridgway Boxing Club is a non-profit organization and
operates by donations from the community.
If anyone would like to help defray the cost of travel and
expenses for Tettis, they may send donations to the Ridgway Boxing
Club, 3446 Grant Road, Ridgway, Pa., 15853.
