Ray Edwards of Middle Island, N.Y., defeated Tim Kriner of
Shippensburg 257-202 Sunday to win the inaugural PBA East Region
Byllye Lanes Open.
Edwards, seeded fifth after Saturday’s eight-game qualifier,
defeated No. 12 Larry Woomer of Port Matilda 3-2; No. 13 Bob Learn
Jr. of Harborcreek 2-0; and No. 9 Edward VanDaniker Jr. of Essex,
Md., 268-203 before meeting Kriner, who was seeded 14th.
For the victory, Edwards earned $2,700. Kriner took home
$1,500.
Two PBA national tour exempt bowlers qualified for match
play.
Ryan Shafer of Horseheads, N.Y., who bowled a televised 300 at
last month’s PBA Pepsi Championship, won his opening match against
Jeff Voght of Canajoharie, but lost to Kriner in the quarterfinals.
Shafer has four career PBA national titles.
Tommy Delutz, a two-time PBA champion from Flushing, N.Y.,
qualified third but was upset in his opening match, again by
Kriner.
There were 107 bowlers who attempted to qualify Saturday.
Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., the first woman to gain exempt
status on the PBA Tour, placed 33rd, two spots ahead of another
former women’s touring pro, Michelle Feldman of Skaneateles.
Feldman, the niece of Byllye Lanes proprietor Steve Feldman, got
the last cash spot at 35th.
Among Bradford bowlers, Justin Feldman finished 58th (1,577
pins), Michael Feldman 63rd (1,562), Steven Moyer 75th (1,520),
Steve Feldman 80th (1,479) and Steve Bartlett 99th (1,361).
Former Bradford resident Kevin Quinn, now of Bordertown, N.J.,
placed 61st (1,571). William Owens of nearby Killbuck, N.Y., was
89th (1,421), and Stephen Stanko of Kane finished 97th (1,379).
