Over 100 professional bowlers will be taking part in the PBA
East Region Byllye Lanes Open which kicked off on Friday with a
Youth Pro-Am at the Bradford alleys.
“We had 110 pros signup which is outstanding,” said Betty
Dougherty, tournament director.
In the Youth Pro-Am event there were eight winners – boys and
girls – in each of four divisions: Bantam (8 and under), Prep
(9-11), Junior (12-14), and Major (15 and up).
The tournament was a no-tap format where nine pins equal a
strike. Three games are bowled, each with a different Pro Bowler.
The youth bowler’s score plus handicap and the three scratch games
of the Pros are added together for a total score.
Winning the Bantam Girl Division was Kelsey Hoover with a grand
total of 1428. In second place was Kayla Amster with 1323.
The Bantam Boy Division was won by Kody Bair with a 1413, while
second went to Xander Edstrom with 1398.
In the Prep Girl Division, Chelsea Greene came out o top with
1491 and second place was won by Brittany Jamison with 1465.
The Prep Boy Division was won by Tyler Sherman’s 1478, followed
by Brenden Skaggs in second place with 1475.
Allison Sampson won the Junior Girl Division with a 1503.
Caitlin Stewart followed in second with 1391.
In the Junior Boy Division, first place honors went to Nathan
Rhoades with 1513 and second place was won by Chad Monkhouse with
1494.
The Major Girl Division was captured by Ashley Sampson’s 1480,
followed closely by Danielle Bednarz with 1478.
Justin Feldman won the Major Boy Division with 1451 and Ryan
Keech placed second with 1387.
The evening shift of bowling featured an Adult Pro-Am.
Cashing in with the top totals were Jeff Smith with 1640, Rod
McCaslin 1576, Richard Black 1532, Dan Reinhardt 1502, Brian
Schillinger 1494 and Mike Butler 1480.
Helping the junior bowlers with their scores were Ryan Shafer,
Bob Learn, Jeff Zaffino, Neal Stemplinger, Nick Miseno, and Ray
Edwards.
Regional PBA bowlers who helped the adult bowlers with their
scores were John Neral, Al Jones, Tommy DeLutz, Jr. Jeff Zaffino,
Joe Paluszek, Michelle Feldman, and Scott Santos.
Action continues at 8 a.m. today with eight-game qualifying
rounds, which will begin with an “A” squad. “B” squad will bowl at
1:30 p.m. and the “C” squad will bowl at 7 p.m.
The top 16 finishers will advance to match play at 9 a.m. on
Sunday where a champion will be crowned.
Following the completion of the competition, there will be an
awards presentation for the top finishers in the Pro-Ams and the
tournament.
Spectators are welcome. Tickets will be available at the door
each day at a cost of $3.00 or there is a two-day ticket for
$5.00.
