Shelly Fuhrman struck out 16 batters and Bradford used a
three-run fifth inning to break open a close game and hand visiting
Oswayo Valley a 6-2 setback in high school softball action
Wednesday at Dana Field.
Fuhrman, whose strikeout total is record book worthy, was in
complete control of the contest. She allowed just four hits and
issued only one walk.
The game was close until Michele Keane smacked a lead-off triple
in the fifth and stole home and Nicole Keane followed that with a
two-run double to open up the game.
“If we had not gotten the three runs in the fifth it would have
been a close game right down to the wire,” said Nichole Spindler,
first year head coach of the Lady Owls.
“Today we hit the ball much better and got the extra base hits
we haven’t been getting,” she added.
Michele Keane, who went 3-for-3 in the game, also doubled, while
Fuhrman helped herself with an RBI double in the third inning.
The losing pitcher for the Lady Green Wave was Brittany Kellogg.
She surrendered eight hits, fanned two batters and issued three
walks.
At the plate, Kellogg and Chelsea Saulter each smacked RBI
doubles.
Bradford, now 3-1, travels to Port Allegany on Friday.
