JULY, TOO: We must now, sadly, add another month to that long
list of months when Bradford has experienced some snow.
On Monday, we heard from Judi Fisher Miller of Plainville,
Mass.: “I can remember very clearly watching fireworks on the 4th
of July with a winter coat on. The snow flakes were coming down
along with the fireworks! Can’t remember the year … but I’ll never
forget it happening!”
August anyone? It’s the only month we’ve got left.
FISH FRIES: Lent is over but still a few more comments on those
fish fries:
Peter A. Vigliotti from Frederick, Md., tells us it’s not just
fish fries that are impossible to find. “My wife Sue, son Andy and
I hold an annual Memorial Day party at our new home in Frederick,
Md. Our friends, neighbors truly enjoy the ‘Bradford Fest,’ as it
is called. Beef on wick, German potato salad, and Keystone hotdogs.
Invited guest to the annual ‘Bradford Fest’ are now counting down
the days.”
Judy Schmader writes, “Regarding good fish fries – Bradford is
just the best. While visiting there in the month of March and now
living in New Mexico my family asked what I would like to do while
there. My one and only request was a ‘good fish fry.’ We have sea
food places but a really good fish fry you just cannot find.”
Meanwhile, we also had a phone call from our old buddy Eleanor
Hand, a self-proclaimed “fish hog” who proclaims the Lighthouse in
Bradford as a fabulous place either for haddock or deep-fried
catfish.
On another, completely unrelated subject, Eleanor revealed
something about herself we had never know – she has killed 30 moose
in her lifetime, in Quebec, Ontario and Newfoundland.
That’s pretty darn amazing, we must admit. We always knew
Eleanor was a different breed of cat.
TWIN ROCKS: Ken Emerson of Eldred re-introduces another recent
RTS topic – the twin sisters rocks at Rock City.
He writes, “I had brothers, Richard and Ronald Emerson. Our
great-grandma lived at Rock City just outside of the park. The
family went up almost every Sunday in the summer and my brothers,
being older, always went over to the rock to play. To make a long
story short, Richard was climbing on one of the twin rocks and fell
and broke his arm.”
More on this rock formation soon.
