Bradford High basketball coach Doug Lloyd won the Margie Holland
Award as Big 30 girls coach of the year over the weekend.
Lloyd, in his fifth year (48-70), led Bradford to a District 9
Class AAA championship.
“Obviously, being named Coach of the Year in the Big 30 is a
great honor,” Lloyd said. “To get the award named after Margie
Holland, who was responsible for bringing girls basketball to
Bradford High, makes it even more special.”
Lloyd credited his success this past season to the players.
“They put in a lot of work in the off season,” he noted. “The
seniors who were with me for four years like Whitney (Cline) and
Nikki (Siffrinn) put in a lot of practice time. We played in the
summer league in Jamestown and attended team camps.”
The Lady Owls’ D-9 title was their first in 11 years.
Jeff Anastasia of Olean High and Doug VanSkiver of Whitesville
were voted co-winners of the 2007 Thomas K. Oakley Award, given to
the Big 30 boys coach of the year.
Also announced were the 2007 Big 30 All-Star teams.
Among those named to the boys first team were Tom Morris of
Bradford and Jordan Crane of Cameron County.
Zak Kossack of Smethport and Blair Heimel of Coudersport were
named to the second team.
Coudersport’s John Hau and Bradford’s Ben Lanich were named to
the third team.
Among those named to the girls first team were Bradford’s
Whitney Cline and Coudersport’s Kristy Kamper.
Jessica Wilson of Coudersport and Diana Phalon of Smethport were
