Alexa Wilton quadrupled and Liz Keller and Paige Ambrose each
tripled to lead the Bradford High girls to an 82-68 win over DuBois
in the Lady Owls’ track and field dual meet opener Tuesday.
“What a meet! Our kids really rose to the occasion against a
good DuBois team tonight,” commented Larry Stillman, Lady Owls
coach. “We were shorthanded in many events, but the girls dug down
and refused to lose. This is a credit to the whole team and to our
coaching staff and trainer. We all worked together and pulled it
out.”
Wilton claimed firsts in the 100 hurdles, long jump and 200 and
was on the winning 4×400 relay team. Keller’s wins came in the 1600
and 3200 runs and as a member of the 3200 relay team and Ambrose
finished first in the 800 and was a part of both the 4×800 relay
and the 4×400 relay winning teams.
Lindsay Sherman doubled for the Lady Owls as a member of both
the 4×800 and 4×400 winning relays.
“It is hard to single out kids as there were many who stepped
up,” noted Stillman. “Our distance runners had a great night. Liz
Keller had a great night winning the 1600 and 3200 runs as well as
the 3200 relay. Paige Ambrose and Whitney Cline took 1-2 in the 800
and Erica Pascarella and Megan Prosser took 2-3 in the 3200. They
all ran hard.ð
“Alexa Wilton, in her first varsity meet, won four events with
very good times in the 200 meters and 100 hurdles. Lindsay Sherman
ran four tough events and had an excellent time in the 400. Tricia
Copeland ran very well as our anchor in the sprint relays and had a
very good time in the 100 meters.
“Erica Pascarella and Katie Slavinski took 1-2 in the high jump
with quality jumps. Brittini Wiseman won the triple jump in her
first varsity meet with a good jump. Our pole vaulters – Nicole
Irons and Rachel Garges – looked much improved.”
“We were very pleased with our throwers,” Stillman continued.
“Katie Vecellio won the discus (105 feet) on her last throw to seal
the win for us with an outstanding throw. She also had a very good
second place throw in the javelin. Brooke Milbrandt broke 30′ in
the shot put in her first varsity dual meet to place second.
“We had many good efforts all night long. We are very proud and
happy for our girls. They earned this win by hanging together and
staying focused.”
Track practice for the Lady Owls will begin at 10 a.m. today.
The Lady Owls return to action Thursday at Olean High School
(noon).
