A trio of triple winners propelled Bradford to a 94.5 to 54.5
home-opening win over DuBois in high school boys track and field
action Tuesday.
Seniors Shroy Mukerjee (400 run, 1600 and 3200 relays) and
Colton Langianese (800 run, 1600 and 3200 relays) and freshman Cody
Nuzzo (400, 1600 and 3200 relays) each tallied three first-place
finishes in the meet.
“Colton ran a super time of 1:59.0 in the 800 meters,” said Tom
Tessena, BHS coach.
“That time is the fastest time I can remember for Bradford in a
dual meet. I think the record in the 800 will fall soon.”
Rich Bartlebaugh doubled as a member of the 1600 and 3200 relay
teams and was second in the 400 run. Vanere Maynard won the 100
dash, was on the 400 relay team and grabbed second in the 200.
David Rivera doubled with wins in the long (21′, personal best) and
triple jumps. Rob Bleem also doubled, claiming the shot put and
discus.
Garrett McEwen was on the 400 relay team and took second place
in both the shot and the javelin. Nick Johnson finished second in
both hurdles races.
“Dan McMurtrie won the pole vault with a 12′ jump and he had
three real good attempts at 13′,” Tessena noted. “He should get
that real soon.”
Recording personal bests were Dan Gonzalez (143′, discus), Matt
Teribery (18’10 1/4″, long jump), Tyree Bennett (44.3, 300
hurdles), Vinnie Schiappa (17.6, 110 high hurdles), C.J. Mackey
(119’9″, discus), John Karrasch (11:17, 3200 run), Nate Burrow and
Ryan Breznik (46.7, 300 hurdles), Breznik (17’7 1/2″, long jump),
Jake McMurtrie (9’6″, pole vault) and Mike Marasco (2:29, 800
run).
“We really needed this meet today – it hurt us to lose that meet
last week,” Tessena said.
“Some of our younger guys are coming around and we do have
veterans stepping up. We need to get all our veterans in shape and
contributing.
“No one cares what we did last year,” Tessena maintained. “We
need to start working hard or we will lose some meets.
“The coaches saw some good things today, but we also saw where
we are weak.”
Tessena also praised the Beavers.
“DuBois is a much improved team and they took quite a few
first-places from us,” he said. “DuBois showed us that they have
some district champion quality athletes and our guys had better get
on the ball.”
The Owls are scheduled to compete at Olean at noon Thursday,
weather permitting. After that, Bradford is at the Bruce Dallas
Invitational in Mechanicsburg on Saturday.
