Fuhrman vs. Furman and Bradford High came out on top with a 3-1 win
over Northern Potter in high school softball Tuesday.
Bradford’s junior ace pitcher Shelly Fuhrman posted a
four-hitter, retiring five hitters on strikes without issuing a
single walk in the win.
Fuhrman’s counterpart Sara Furman also recorded a four-hitter on
the hill for NoPo. Furman whiffed four, but walked three.
Both hurlers also recorded the game’s only extra-base hits as
they each ripped a double.
Also for Bradford, Jonnie Mascho, Erin Comilla and Sabina
Vecellio each plated a run.
“We finally hit the ball a little better,” conceded Nichole
Spindler, Bradford skipper. “We got some big hits when we needed
them.
“A couple of our younger players came through on a couple of
plays.”
The Lady Owls faced a 1-0 deficit in the top of the first
inning, but scored three unanswered runs for the victory.
“We had a couple of quick innings, got a couple of girls on and
we were able to take advantage of some hits and some sacrifices,”
Spindler recalled.
The win pushes the Lady Owls to 2-1 on the season.
Bradford’s next scheduled game hosting Otto-Eldred on Thursday
has been postponed. The Lady Owls are now slated to hit the diamond
again Monday hosting Kane.
