SISTER STONES: This illustration was contained in the 50th
anniversary edition of “Ripley’s Believe it or Not” with the words,
“The Twin Sisters, Natural Stone Formation, Bradford, Pa.”
Do you recognize it? Can you pinpoint its location?
Ken Lunn, who dropped off the book, tells us he’s shown the
picture to several people and each has a different idea where the
rocks might be – Rock City, Thunder Rocks, etc.
Incidentally, the book has a 1968 copyright.
BOB SEGER: Perhaps the mystery has been solved concerning the
reason Bob Seger mention of Olean, N.Y., and Allegany, N.Y., in one
of his recent CDs – or not.
One of our readers phoned to say Seger performed years ago in
bars in Olean, and in the early 1970s performed a concert at St.
Bonaventure University with Big Willie and the Hubcaps.
“Guess the images of these town stuck in his mind,” he said.
We also heard from Patrick Collins of Bradford who had a theory:
“Perhaps Bob Seger, being a biker (thus the cover of the new album)
happened across the Rally in the Valley event held every year in
Olean. This would not surprise me as he is known for taking
motorcycle rides in unusual places.”
One of our readers says the Olean newspaper had a story on this
subject within the past six months or so. When we get our hands on
that, we’ll give our readers the full story.
