Headlining this week’s additions to the Don Raabe Charities
Classic rosters for Pennsylvania is Anthony Marrone of Otto-Eldred
High School.
Also joining the Pennsy squad are Nathan Weber of Johnsonburg
High School and Anthony Crum of Port Allegany High School.
For the New York side, Eric Maurouard of Olean Archbishop Walsh
High School, Josh Austin of Portville Central School and William
Yaworsky of Salamanca Central School have all accepted invitations
to the 34th annual game.
Marrone, a 5’5″, 155-pound running back, outside linebacker and
corner, plans to major in petroleum technology at the University of
Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Marrone earned three-year letters in football and baseball and
was named to the AML North all-star team.
Marrone said he wants to play in the Big 30 Game because “it is
a big accomplishment to be selected. It’s an honor to represent my
team and school.”
He believes his biggest thrill was “when our team worked
together and also playing defense, special teams and hitting
people.”
Marrone enjoys playing backyard sports with friends, playing
PlayStation and weightlifting in his free time. His favorite team
is the Pittsburgh Steelers and his favorite player is Troy
Polamalu.
Weber, a 5’11” 240-pound guard and defensive tackle, plans to
attend Bloomsburg University and major in hearing and speech
pathology.
He is a member of the National Honor Society and is an Eagle
Scout.
Weber was named the Olean (N.Y.) Times Herald Big 30 defensive
player of the year, was an AML all-star and defensive lineman of
the year.
He wants to play in the Big 30 Game “because of the strong love
I have for football. I don’t feel ready to hang up my pads. Playing
in the Big 30 Game has always been a dream to me. Being on the
field with some truly talented teammates will be an experience I
will love to take part in.”
Weber says his biggest thrill is when “you know the ball is
gonna be run to your hole, doing anything you can to destroy that
hole and stop that run.”
Weber’s hobbies include playing guitar in a band, hunting,
swimming and four-wheeling.
Weber’s favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers, while his
favorite player is Matt Starkes.
The final addition for this week for the Pennsylvania side is
Crum, a 5’10” 195-pound tight end, defensive end and outside
linebacker.
Crum plans to study criminal justice at Point Park
University.
His honors include lettering three years in football, two years
in track and one year in wrestling.
Crum says his reason for wanting to be a part of the Big 30 Game
is “to be able to play with the best players in the area and to
feel the thrill of playing high school football one last time.”
His biggest thrill was “my junior year when we came back to beat
Brockway with 22 seconds left in the game.”
Crum’s hobbies include playing drums, weightlifting, skiing and
hanging with friends.
His favorite team is the Cincinnati Bengals, and his favorite
player is Chad Johnson.
For the New York roster, the first of this week’s three
additions is Maurouard, a 5’10”, 160-pound center and defensive
end.
Maurouard plans to attend Jamestown Community College.
His honors include being a member of the National Honor Society
and being named a Monsignor All-Star.
Maurouard’s reason to play in the Classic is “to represent
Archbishop Walsh High School, and I love football.”
Mauroruard’s biggest thrill would have to be “winning homecoming
my senior year, and also going to Ralph Wilson Stadium for playoffs
my sophomore year.”
His hobbies include fishing, hunting, ice skating and lifting
weights at the YMCA.
Mauroruard’s favorite team is the Buffalo Bills, and his
favorite player is Takeo Spikes.
Also joining the New York side will be Austin, a 5’11” 190-pound
tight end and defensive end.
Austin will attend Alfred State, majoring in computer
networking.
Austin’s reason for playing in the Big 30 Game is “I love to
play football and this is my final chance to play an organized
football game.”
His biggest thrill was “playing football on the same field that
the Buffalo Bills play on during our sectional playoffs.”
Austin enjoys playing football, basketball and baseball and
hanging out with friends in his free time.
Austin’s favorite team is the Buffalo Bills, and his favorite
player is Vince Young.
Yaworsky, a 5’8″ 175-pound running back and middle linebacker is
the sixth and final addition to the rosters this week.
Yaworksy plans to major in computer science but is still
undecided on which school he will attend.
His honors include regents honors, receiving numerous player of
the week awards and being named team captain twice. Yaworsky also
received the coach’s award for sportsmanship and was named Buffalo
State camp MVP.
Yaworsky looks forward to the Big 30 Game because he wants “to
play again, just to play.”
He believes his biggest thrill is “breaking a tackle.”
This year’s game will be played at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at Bradford
High’s Parkway Field.
The game pits graduated seniors from Pennsylvania against
graduated seniors from New York.
New York holds a 17-14-2 advantage.
The first 33 games produced over $1,150,000 donated to numerous
charities and personal causes throughout the Twin Tiers.
Today’s additions bring the total to 18 players who have
accepted invitations to play in the game.
