A Bradford man has been indicted by the U.S. Attorney’s office
on charges of selling contraband to federal prison inmates, and
will appear in court in Erie Tuesday to answer to the charges.
Martin J. Grove, 49, of Cole Avenue, was charged last March with
a two-count indictment by a federal grand jury.
Grove, who was an employee of the United States Bureau of
Prisons, was charged with receiving an illegal payment and
providing contraband in a federal prison for incidents between
August 2002 to July 2003, according to court records.
A laundry foreman at Federal Correctional Institute at McKean,
Grove accepted a payment of approximately $2,000 in cash from an
inmate to provide them with contraband items – a quantity of weight
training supplements, which are prohibited, the records read.
The U.S. Attorney’s office indicated that the maximum penalty
for the offenses is more than 15 years in prison and/or a fine of
up to $255,000. Under the federal sentencing guidelines, the
sentence imposed would be based upon Grove’s prior criminal
history, if any, and upon the seriousness of the offense.
A representative of the U.S. Attorney’s office explained Grove
is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court for the Western
District of Pennsylvania at 10 a.m. Tuesday for a change of plea in
the case.
