GAS PAINS: Bob Murphy of Smethport drops us an e-line late last
week: “”Is anyone else out there getting angryðabout the increases
in the price of gasoline? It has been steadily climbing for the
past month.””[neWLine]
“”Just this week aloneðin Smethport it has gone from $2.35
Monday morning to $2.51 tonight. Is it me or are the oil companies
just plain greedy?[neWLine]
“”I think it is time for Congress to step in and start putting
some control on the price raising. We all know the price will rise
for the coming summer season, but isn’t this a little
ridiculous?””[neWLine]
Ridiculous? Bob is being way too polite. However, our feelings
are not appropriate for a family newspaper.[neWLine]

ON WING: Two reports on Thursday of northbound
geese.[neWLine]
Russ Swanson of Mount Jewett wrote at noon, “”Just saw a flock
of 75 geese go over Mount Jewett. They were truly going
north.””[neWLine]
We also had a report from Ginger Andreano who saw a flock
heading straight north over her home not far from Port Allegany at
12:10 p.m.[neWLine]
Can’t help but wonder if it was the same flock. No matter. Any
such reports are welcome as winter grinds away.[neWLine]

A QUERY: Tony Grill in Philadelphia writes, “”Being a native of
Bradford and spending my first 35 years there and return every
chance that I have and long to be there – I was wondering if anyone
could tell me when the last trollies ran in Bradford. Thanks and I
hope someone can help me with this bit of
information.””[neWLine]
If you know, let us know and we’ll print the information in a
future column.[neWLine]

NIE STARS: Calling all 4th graders in Sue Zirkle’s class at
Otto-Eldred Elementary School: You are now the featured “”stars””
on the Newspapers In Education link from The Era’s
website.[neWLine]
Check it out to see a photo and story about the class’ use of
the newspaper in the classroom for instruction in a variety of
skills – to brush up on language arts, study current events and
gain comprehension skills, among other academic pursuits. In
addition, students learn about the different parts of a
newspaper.[neWLine]
