Bradford split with Clearfield Friday in high school swimming
action.
The Lady Owls defeated the Lady Bisons 94-76, while the Bradford
boys fell to Clearfield boys 105-60.
It was a night for record setting, as both the girls and boys
set new pool and team records.
Erica Pascarella (200 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free Relay and 400
Free Relay) and Ellie Imhof (200 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free Relay, 400
Free Relay) each quadrupled for the Lady Owls (6-3), while Katie
Slavinski (50 Free, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay) tripled.
Pascarella set a new pool record in the 200 Free with a time of
2:05.22.
Pascarella was also part of the 200 Free relay, with Imhof,
Slavinski and Katlyn Nelson, which set a pool record with their
performance of 1:46.35.
“Going into the meet, the girls were looking for nothing but a
win. We had been beaten by two points down there, and it’s always a
really tight rivalry between these two squads,” said Pam Digel,
Bradford coach. “Ever since we left there a couple weeks ago, this
has been their focus.
“Erica’s performance in the 200 Free was the event that really
set the pace for the rest of the meet. I think it gave the rest of
the team the confidence to realize they were quite capable of
taking this team. From there on out, everyone did the jobs they had
to do, and we swam very strong across the board.
“Katlyn Nelson and Heather Vickory put the meet away for the
girls by going 1-2 in the 100 Breast, but they weren’t satisfied
with that. The two 400 Free Relays turned around and went 1-2 once
again.”
Several swimmers turned in strong performances in their
individual events, according to Digel.
“We had a strong performance in the 200 Free from Marissa
Buchheit,” Digel noted. “Ellie had her best time for the year in
the 200 IM.
“Katie grabbed the 50 Free for us, and we turned around and got
a great surprise second place finish in the 100 Fly from Bethany
Russell.
“We went first-second in the 100 Free and had a great
performance from our distance swimmers, Marissa Buchheit, Janie
Reiley and Leslie Shallop, who picked up great points for us in the
500 Free.”
For the Owls (4-5), the 200 Free Relay of Ben Daggett, Dan
Gonzalez, Alex Goodman and Matt Schwab set both a new pool and team
record with their performance of 1:35.23.
Goodman also claimed firsts in the 50 and 100 Free to triple for
Bradford.
“The boys weren’t to be outdone as far as records,” Digel
commented. “We were pleased with other individual performances,
especially Matt Anderson in the 200 Free and 100 Breast, Ben
Daggett in the 200 IM and Steve Cavagnero in the 100 Back.
“All in all, we are really pleased with where the kids are, as
we come to the end of our dual meet season and as we look toward
District 9 League Championships next weekend. We have a lot of
confidence now in terms of what we think we are going to be able to
do.”
Clearfield’s Shay Flanagan also set a pool record in the 500
Free, with a time of 5:06.32.
Bradford is idle until Friday, when it hosts the District 9
League championships. Diving will be held Thursday in St.
Marys.
