NOT SO: American Refining Group President and Chief Operating
Officer Harvey Golubock called to clear up some misconceptions
about Thursday’s ‘Round the Square.
There was a comment about ARG selling gas in Ohio and the Ohio
prices are a lot less than here.
“It was very misleading,” Harvey said. “We don’t sell gasoline
into Ohio.”
ARG does sell diesel. And the company mentioned – Flying J –
only receives diesel gasoline from ARG.
Harvey explained that most of their gasoline is wholesale. “We
are not in the retail end of the business … we don’t retail any
gasoline.”
FLORIDA NEWS: Nancy Houser Kania gives us a southern view: “This
morning a flock of robins fluttered around in my front yard. Even
though these birds ‘fly south for the winter,’ it is seldom that
they come through SW Florida. It was a delight to see them
bob-bob-bobbing along!”
“In today’s local paper, a gentleman wrote in that he had seen
thousands of them in the Naples, Fla., area. Too bad they came for
the coldest temps of our winter – it actually was in the 30s and
40s here.
“Item 2: Today being Groundhog Day, I wanted to pass along this
‘event’ that happened last February. At the Shell Factory, a great
tourist attraction here, the owners decided to do a Punxsutawney
Phil act and ordered a pair of groundhogs shipped to them.
“When Feb. 2 arrived, so did bad news: the groundhogs were not
what they were supposed to be – they turned out to be prairie dogs!
This year I believe we have groundhogs.”
FIDO NOTE: Outdoor dogs can take a lot but, when it gets this
bitter cold, bring ’em inside. Imagine how you’d like it! Even when
it gets a little warmer, don’t forget to check their water dish
daily. They can freeze up pretty fast when the mercury gets as low
as it’s been lately.
ZIPPO NOTE: Jim Flynn tells us the Discovery Channel’s program,
“How It’s Made,” did a quickie presentation over the weekend on
manufacture of the lighter. They didn’t mention Zippo by name but
it was obvious since they showed the name inscribed on the
bottom.
GAS PAIN: Susan Yeager e-mailed us Monday morning: “I happened
to be in St. Marys, Pa., this weekend. Gas at almost all the
stations was $2.04 – say what!”
