Ben Daggett and Alex Goodman each quadrupled to power Bradford
past DuBois 107-44 in high school swimming competition Friday night
at the Pitt Bradford Sport & Fitness Center.
Daggett was victorious in the 200 free and 500 free and was a
member of the 200 and 400 free relay teams. Goodman captured the
100 free and the 50 free and was on the 200 and 400 free relay
teams.
Goodman’s victory in the 50 free in a time of 22.47 broke a pool
record set earlier this season.
Tripling for the Owls were Adam Barnes (200 medley relay, 100
back, 400 free relay) and Matt Schwab (200 IM, 200 medley relay,
400 free relay), while Dan Gonzalez record a double as a member of
the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
“We saw lots of exciting things tonight from the boys’ team,”
said Pam Digel, BHS coach. “This was a very solid swim teamwise,
which is important. The coaching staff has really be emphasizing
the potential these guys have together as a team. This was a big
win for them tonight.
“We saw guys dig deep in the close races and at this point in
the season it’s encouraging to see them have this much speed,”
Digel commented. “For them to be this strong with the way we’re
working them out is exciting as we start getting ready for our
championship meets.”
On the girls’ side, Bradford rolled over the Lady Beavers 108-62
behind triples from Erica Pascarella and Katie Slavinski.
Pascarella was a winner in the 200 IM, the 200 free and the 400
free relay and Slavinski took home firsts in the 200 free, the 100
fly and the 400 free relay).
Earning doubles were Katlyn Nelson (50 free, 200 medley relay),
Janie Reiley (200 medley relay, 400 free relay), Bethany Russell
(200 medley relay, 400 free relay) and Ellie Imhof (200 medley
relay, 100 back).
“The girls had a very solid meet,” Digel pointed out. “We had a
chance to swim some kids in some different events tonight and I
think we learned some very positive things that we hadn’t known
before.
“We had some outstanding swims from Katlyn Nelson (50 and 100
free), Bethany Russell (200 IM, 100 free), Marissa Buchheit (200
IM, 500 free), Janie Reiley (500 free) and Katie Slavinski (200
free, 100 fly).
“All the girls that swam breaststroke – Ashley Eliason, Heather
Vickery and Brittany McGee – did well.
“As with the guys, the girls really dug down in close races and
pulled out some events by tenths and hundredths of seconds, which
is something that at this point in the season we really need to
have them have the confidence that they’re capable of doing
it.”
Both squads are now 4-3 and they will break the surface again
Monday visiting Brookville.
