BUFFALO, N.Y. – Medaille rallied from a 13-point second-half
deficit to defeat Pitt-Bradford 69-66 in an AMCC men’s basketball
game Wednesday night.
The Panthers (10-8, 7-4) were playing without leading scorer Dan
Thomas, who didn’t dress because he was serving a one-game
suspension for a team violation.
“Not having him hurt,” UPB coach Andy Moore said. “He is
averaging 16 points per game.”
The Panthers committed five turnovers down the stretch, allowing
the hosts to stage a comeback.
“We finished the game very poorly,” Moore declared. “We didn’t
handle the ball and we didn’t get a good shot. It’s a disappointing
loss. We played well enough to win the game.”
Bill Gersitz made two free throws with 20 seconds remaining to
give the hosts a one-point lead. They converted two more free
throws in the closing seconds for the three-point win.
The Panthers outrebounded Medaille 34-28 with UPB’s Mark Austin
grabbing 14 boards.
Pacing the Panthers were Ryan Race (22 points), Shawn Spindler
(19) and Mike Ridge (11).
Leading Medaille (8-10, 4-7) were James McNeil (24 points),
Gersitz (13) and Keith Hack (10).
The Panthers visit Mount Aloysius at 4 p.m. Saturday.
