Bradford put three girls in double figures and went on to post a
50-42 win over Brookville in a District 9 League basketball game
Thursday night.
Nikki Siffrinn (16 points), Whitney Cline (13) and Katie White
(10) led Bradford.
The win gave the Lady Owls (11-5) a sweep of the season
series.
Carlie Cook had 18 tallies and Paige Elkin 11 for
Brookville.
“Brookville played well,” Bradford coach Doug Lloyd pointed out.
“We shot 22-for-49 which isn’t bad, but we missed a lot of open
shots.”
Cline finished with 10 rebounds, Siffrinn had seven assists and
Kayla Murphey grabbed six boards.
“Kate White made a big difference defensively,” Lloyd added.
Bradford held a 12-9 lead after one quarter and built a 23-13
advantage at the half. However, Brookville rallied to outscore the
hosts 18-9 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 32-31.
“We got up by 10 (at the half) and then let them back in,” Lloyd
said.
In the fourth quarter, White hit three straight shots and
Siffrinn converted 4-of-5 from the line to secure the victory.
“We had a tough game Tuesday at Elk County Catholic and a tough
game tonight,” Lloyd admitted. “To win them both is great. We
played hard and hustled up and down the floor. We got into some
foul trouble, which hurt.
“Britni VanScoter and Kayla Murphey came off the bench and had
nice games.”
It doesn’t get any easier for the Lady Owls, who visit Olean,
N.Y., on Monday and host unbeaten Punxsutawney on Friday.
“We haven’t played as well as I think we can,” Lloyd maintained.
“This was a tough week. We gutted it out and played hard. We did
what we had to do to win.
“Next week we’ll see an Olean team that likes to pressure the
ball a lot. You have to come ready to play against them.
“Punxsutawney is always tough. They haven’t lost a league game
in five years. We have to play our best and see what happens.”
