ST. MARYS – Bradford High shot 48 percent from the field and
held off a furious Elk County Catholic rally for a 64-57 District 9
League win Tuesday night.
Whitney Cline had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady
Owls (10-5, 5-2).
Nikki Siffrinn poured in 15 points and had seven assists. Katie
White chipped in with 12 tallies and Tricia Copeland had eight
points, four steals and eight rebounds.
“We shot 24-for-49, which is the best we have shot all year,”
BAHS coach Doug Lloyd said. “Katie White played a great game. She
was the difference in the game tonight.
“Whitney Cline played a nice game. Nikki Siffrinn ran the ball,
got a lot of assists and scored a lot. She took things under
control.
“Tricia Copeland and Katie White stepped up and played well.
They got us off to a fast start. Britani VanScoter came off the
bench and scored five points. She did a nice job. Shelly Fuhrman
did a nice job defensively and Meghan Perschke played well.”
The Lady Crusaders (11-3) trailed by 18 points in the fourth
quarter. However, they rallied to close to within four with 1:30
left.
“They hit some big shots and made it close at the end,” Lloyd
noted. “Whitney and Nikki hit some free throws near the end to seal
the win.”
The Lady Owls jumped to a 23-11 lead after the first quarter and
built a 38-25 lead at intermission. Bradford outscored ECC 16-11 in
the third quarter to take a 54-36 advantage.
“This is a big win for us,” Lloyd declared. “It’s the first time
we have won down here in 10 years. Elk always has a nice team. They
play hard. It was great to come down here and win one.”
The win gave Bradford a sweep of the season series.
