ST. MARYS – Three Bradford swimmers quadrupled as the Lady Owls
defeated St. Marys 113-57 in high school swimming Thursday.
Erica Pascarella (200 free, 500 free, 200 free relay, 400 free
relay), Ellie Imhof (200 IM, 100 fly, 200 free relay, 400 free
relay) and Katie Slavinski (50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay, 400
free relay) paced the Lady Owls (3-2), who have won three
straight.
Katlyn Nelson added a double (100 breast, 200 free relay).
“This was a nice, solid team win for the girls,” BAHS coach Pam
Digel said. “We are swimming very consistently, which is good at
this point in the season.
“We had a couple nice time performances from Leslie Shallop (500
free) and Katlyn Nelson (100 breast). We are seeing steady
improvement with each meet.”
In the boys meet, St. Marys posted a 92-84 win over the
Owls.
Alex Goodman (100 free, 200 free relay, 100 breast) tripled for
the Owls (3-2). Ben Daggett doubled (200 free, 200 free relay).
“It was a very exciting meet,” Digel admitted. “We knew we
matched up pretty evenly against them. We asked the guys to do
everything they were capable of doing in each event to hopefully
pull out the team win. Even though we didn’t win, the exciting part
is we had some fantastic time drops.”
Digel cited improvements from Daggett (200 free, 100 back),
Vince Pascarella (200 free, 500 free), Matt Schwab (200 IM), Dan
Gonzalez (50 free) and Maverick Irwin (200 free, 100 free).
“Quite frankly, I can’t name a swimmer that didn’t have a
seasonal best – that’s about all you can ask for.
“We knew we had a couple of deficiencies we had to try to
overcome. We were missing a key performer in the IM and
breaststroke events.
“To compensate we had to spread ourselves a little thin by
moving Alex around to some events he usually is not in. Everybody
else stepped in and did outstanding jobs.
“St. Marys also had one diver, which gave them an automatic
six-point lead over us. With all that going on, it came down to the
last relay (400 free relay) before the Dutch were able to close the
door.
“The good news is St. Marys travels to our pool Feb. 1. I think
the boys are already anxious for a second shot at this.”
